The Arts Crew is an organization for those that enjoy the performing, visual, historical, or literary arts. We plan local events in Utah and neighboring states along with trips everywhere in the world for young adults wanting to meet new people with a shared love of the arts. From concerts and museums to Shakespeare in the park, The Arts Crew has a space for you. Creativity knows no limits, and neither do we. Come join The Arts Crew!

I apologize for the recent spam of posts.

I’ve posted parts of this larger project in bits and pieces. All them made with black and white charcoal. Not all of them are titled.

To me this project explores several themes including navigating uncertainty, coming of age and our relation to Christ but ultimately I leave the interpretation up to the viewer. Take whatever meanings you need from these images.

These pieces are probably 1-2yrs old.
In that time I’ve graduated from BYU with a Bachelors in art. I’m so grateful for all the wonderful people, places and opportunities I experienced through the BYU Arts Department. @byuart

Untitled 30x22in
This charcoal drawing is an abstracted interpretation of Lehi’s vision of the tree of life as described in the Book of Mormon. More specifically the symbol of the “iron rod” noted by Lehi and later explained by Nephi.

Style in correlation to my conceptual vision was inspired by:
1. Pablo Picassos cubist painting “Guernica”, recounting the chaotic aftermath of the cities bombing.
2. M.C. Escher’s mastery of optical illusion and “impossible places”
3. The dream like quality of Hieronymus Bosch’s Hell scape
4. The use of light in the more contemporary works of Cocco Jorge (a popular artist amongst the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints)

I drew this for an assignment in my advanced drawing class, our prompt was to simply draw something inspired by light. This is black and white charcoal on very light grey paper.

I divided this series into 3 posts and even then just my favorites but this was one of my recent art pieces.

No title yet, but this was meant to be a series about personal turmoil and daily prayer.

Each of these images are loosely based off of real scenes from my own life and my personal experience with faith.
(Me, being member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints aka “Mormon”)

PROCESS:
These are mono prints which is a process that involves drawing/painting your image with ink on plexiglass then rolling it through a press to transfer the ink onto paper.
.
Each of these prints involved about three layers of that same process. I’m an art nerd so it’s interesting to me how it’s made, I figured I’d share.

For those of you who follow this account and like to hear updates about my journey as a young artist:⁠
- I recently transferred from BYU-Hawaii to BYU⁠
- I switched majors from Graphic Design to Fine Art⁠
- BYU's College of Fine Art and Communications reviewed my portfolio and I was officially accepted into the Fine Arts BA program!⁠
- I've been employed as the sole, full-time in-house Graphic Designer for BYU's Computer and Electrical Engineering department. Where I coordinate and instruct a wonderful little team of part-time GDs. I love it.⁠
- I'm working on several Commissioned Art pieces.⁠

Needless to say, I feel immensely grateful for these recent opportunities and I'm thankful to everyone who's supported encouraged me, especially through high school.⁠

Been working on this painting for a while and all I have to say is that I absolutely love painting fabric! Still working on this underpainting but soon I'll be able to start layering color onto the canvas.⁠

Hey guys it's been a while!⁠
This post is soo overdue, but on July 17th I sold prints as a vendor for a local musical event called spoonfest in Provo Utah. It was a wonderful event with even better people, I'm looking forward to returning next year as a vendor and enjoying more live music with friends.⁠

Artist Statement:
This is my interpretation of infatuation, otherwise known as the “love goggles” effect when the person you’re infatuated with could never do anything wrong, even if in reality the relationship is dysfunctional or unhealthy. In essence, the contrast between who you think the person is verse who they really are. In this piece there’s a man infatuated with a woman. The butterflies represent the infatuation as they subtly manipulate the man’s perception of the woman by hiding anything that may be unpleasant about her.

Pomagranates always remind me of Christmas ❤
.My dad and I have made a new years resolution to paint for at least 2 hours every day until I move back to college! It's been about one week since we started.

I don't think I've ever posted any of my ceramic pieces before...

Doesn't have a name yet but this is an abstract piece I was working on just before BYU-Hawaii switched to remote learning. Unfortunately I had to leave campus before I could glaze it. This was created using the coil building technique. This is my interpretation of calm and balanced energy.

My second year of college and I'm FINALLY enrolled in a drawing class! This project has quickly become one of my personal favorites. No refrence image, just me and the plants 🙃

Here's another class project! This was my first project with charcoal, very fun. I'm glad to be stepping out of my comfort zone and learning knew things. Also... how cool is my little brother in this photo?

"Tree of life"
Art often reflects what is meaningful to the artist, for me, a large part of my life revolves around religion. This painting was inspired by the tree of life described in Lehi's vision, recorded in the Book of Mormon. Lehi's vision is then later explained by his son Nephi:

"10 And it came to pass that I (Lehi) beheld a tree, whose fruit was desirable to make one happy
12 And as I partook of the fruit thereof it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy; wherefore, I began to be desirous that my family should partake of it also; for I knew that it was desirable above all other fruit."

PAINTING SOLD

I've been practicing with oil paint in preparation for some upcoming commission pieces. I'll admit I was intimidated by this medium before quarantine but given a little more time to work with it, oil painting is quickly climbing to the top of my favorites list!

I was working on this up till the last hour before I hopped on the plane to Hawaii for college last summer. What feels like a lifetime later, and no longer separated by an entire ocean, I finally have the opportunity to finish it!
.
Coming from a family of surfers, the ocean is very special to us. All that life and movement hidden beneath the surface has always facinated me. So far I've lived most of my life between the states of California and Hawaii so I decided to paint animals that were impressionable to me and local to those areas that surfers interact with so often. I was also inspired by the Native American art I saw while traveling the coast of Northern California and the remnants of a fishing tribe that used to live near one of my favorite surf spots.
